The sunny days of Summer bring change to our skin, hair, and for some people—a total change in personal color palettes. When the heat goes up, our skin generates melanin to protect it from UV rays which in turn can create a darker skin tone. While our skin gets darker, our hair tends to lighten up a bit—especially if you add the bleaching effect of ocean and pool water to the mix. Seasonal changes in skin and hair provide the perfect opportunity to mix things up a bit—even if it’s only adding a few highlights. Here are some things to consider when choosing a summertime look that is right for you:
- THE FIRST STEP IS TO SEARCH FOR INSPO PHOTOS OF THE LOOK YOU WANT, SELECTING IMAGES OF PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR SKIN TONES AS YOU.
- CONSIDER DIFFERENT OPTIONS AND ALLOW YOUR DESIGNER TO RECOMMEND WHICH ONE WOULD BE BEST FOR YOUR HAIR AND YOUR LIFESTYLE.
Summer provides a rainbow of options for hair color, but temporary or permanent hair colors are not our Designers only tools for giving you a new look. VOMOR hair extensions are a quick and temporary way to change your look without changing your hair. Adding in extensions for color can be as simple as a few fashion color peekaboo pieces or as dramatic as block color. Get your color wheel spinning and think about which color might be right for you!
REDS
The red-hot hair trend continues this Summer, and there are so many shades to explore. Strawberry Blonde, Copper, Spiced Red, and Dark Sultry Red, are just a few trending now. Red hair will require some extra steps to maintain since it fades faster than other hair colors. “Red molecules are larger and therefore are harder to penetrate the cortex of the hair.” Explains Mango Designer Christine.
*Mango Designer Tip. To slow down the fading, Christine recommends not washing red hair as frequently and to wash using cold water and a low suds shampoo like Aveda’s Nutriplenish or Color Control.
BLONDES & BRONDES
Sunshine Blonde- This golden look gets lighter around the hairline and is warm and bright, as opposed to an icy cream blonde. There is nice variation and dimension that showcases different shades of gold.
Oat Milk Blonde- An Ashy blonde that compliments almost every skin tone. It can be very light (almost platinum but not as bright) or a very soft blonde that borders on light brown which we call a “Bronde”. There generally is not a lot of variation in this color, instead the look calls for a more solid but light look.
*Designer Tip. Purple Shampoos like Aveda’s Blonde Revive keep blondes looking vibrant in between color appointments. For gold tone blondes Aveda’s new Color Renewal Masques are a take home alternative to shine treatments.
RICH BRUNETTES
Spring was all about Rich Brunettes, and a few highlights can take this dark rich look into Summer. Make dark hair look dimensional and effortless with some contrasting babylights around the face in caramel or a touch of gold highlights naturally sprinkled throughout. Both give hair a sunkissed look by adding shine, especially when you see them out in the sunlight. It is important to use a heat protectant to keep this look healthy and effortless.
*Mango Designer Tip. Mango Master Designer Karen recommends Botanical Repair Strengthening Leave In Treatment or Smooth Infusion Spray to her guests during the Summer months.
PASTELS
Pink, Peach and Aqua are the pastel hair colors trending right now. Depending on your hair color, fashion colors may require stylists to first remove your natural color with bleach. The process along with your hair type will determine the necessary aftercare to keep your hair healthy and hydrated.
*Mango Designer Tip. All of Aveda’s Nutriplenish Shampoos, Conditioners, and Treatments will keep hair hydrated. The Nutriplenish Deep products are specifically formulated for curly hair which tends to be dry. This Summer Nutriplenish is launching a new foam that hydrates while giving volume and control in styling.
